Have you ever looked at a personalised gift and wondered why it costs more than something similar in a shop? It’s a fair question. After all, how difficult can it be to add a name to a piece of wood or stainless steel? Well, sometimes quite difficult! 😊
Before the Laser Even Starts
A surprising amount of work happens before I press the start button. There’s the design, the choice of font, the positioning and making sure everything will actually work on the material. And when a customer asks for something completely different? That’s when the real creativity begins.

When Things Don’t Go According to Plan
Not every engraving turns out perfectly the first time. Wood can have a mind of its own, a beautiful font can become unreadable when engraved, and sometimes a design that looked perfect on screen needs to be completely reworked. It’s all part of the process, although I must admit some days require a little more patience than others!
Why Not Just Buy Something Mass-Produced?
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with mass-produced gifts. They’re often practical, affordable and exactly what someone needs. But handmade and personalised gifts offer something different. You’re not simply choosing an item off a shelf. You’re choosing something that’s been designed or adapted for a particular person. That takes time, care and sometimes a few attempts to get right.
The Part I Enjoy Most
For me, the best part isn’t necessarily watching the laser work. It’s seeing an idea become a finished gift and knowing it was made for someone specific. A name, a special date or even a few carefully chosen words can turn an ordinary item into something meaningful. And that’s why I believe a personalised gift doesn’t have to cost a fortune to be special. It just needs a little thought, creativity and care.
Because sometimes the simplest-looking gifts have the most work behind them.
